How to Get PR In Canada?

Canada is a beautiful country offering a high standard of life. The superlative economic conditions and high employment rates attract people from around the globe.

The Canadian Govt. also welcomes people with skills from around the world who wish for a good life. Therefore, it has a soft immigration policy. The Govt.providesseveral policies to welcome immigrants. Some of these programs for Canada immigration permanent resident are:

  • Express Entry System
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Provincial Nominee Programs

What Is PR Card?

PR card is issued for the help of Permanent Residents. If a Permanent Resident leaves Canada, he or she will need a PR card to return to Canada. The card is a proof of being a permanent resident in Canada.

Main benefits of PR are:

  • You can live, study and even work anywhere in Canada.
  • Like Canadian citizens, you have rights to social benefits like health care benefits.
  • It helps you in seeking in future Canadian citizenship.
  • You get protection under Canadian law.

But there are limitations like:

  • You cannot vote for or hold political office
  • You cannot work for a job needing clearance for high security.

Canada Express Entry

It is a popular immigration system. It is based on a system of points. With aim to bridge the skill gap, the express entry system provides PR to skilled migrants.

Candidates must gain points as per age, education, work experience, language proficiency and other factors. Three immigration programs are offered as per this system are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades program
  • Canadian experience class

Needsfor Express Entry:

  • Language proficiency
  • Educational Credit Assessment (ECA) list to match your education to the Canadian system
  • A score of at least 67 on the point system.
  • Apply online with an Expression of Interest (EOI)
  • Based on these, you may get an ITA (Invitation to Apply) for which you have to submit character and health certificates.

In addition, there are other stipulations:

Federal Skilled Worker Program:

  • Must have financial stability
  • At least 1-year experience
  • Proficiency in French or English
  • Must have a suitable occupation

Federal Skilled Trade Program

  • If you have skills like carpentry, gardening etc.
  • Experience of at least 2 years using this skill
  • Proficiency in French or English
  • Have a proper job offer as per skill

Canadian Express Class

This is meant for persons living and working in Canada.

  • At least 1-year experience doing work in Canada
  • Language proficiency in French or English.

There are also other requirements.

Canada Express Entry Draw

If a candidate secures points more than a particular minimum, he will be provided with an ITA and his case will be added to a draw conducted by the IRCC. Points are calculated on basis of a comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Those with top scores are chosen for Express Entry Draws, which helps for PR visa for Canada.

Process of Acquiring PR:

There are 3 steps:

  • Completion of online express entry profile
  • Process of qualifying for a pool
  • Invitation to apply for permanent residency

After getting scores, you have to submit ITA. Your case will be processed within 6 months. Your case will be in the pool for 12 months.
