Necessity for the ECA during immigration to Canada

During your migration to Canada, you will need to submit the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). It is needed for applying some of the key programs related to immigration of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). IRCC has designated the World Education Service (WES) to give ECAs for people that finished their degrees and diplomas from countries other than Canada.

Achievable targets using ECA from WES

Once WES gives you the Educational Credential Assessment, one is eligible to do the following things:

  • Get recognition for your education. This helps you pursue your life goals in Canada.
  • Fulfill requirements laid down by IRCC ECA (this does not apply to pharmacists and physicians).
  • Store your documents that have undergone verification and the report until you need it at a future time.

The validity of the ECA done by WES will remain valid for a period of 5 years beginning from the date of issue. One may use their ECA while submitting their new profile for Express Entry. For those that have not received an IRCC invitation and wishing to create a new profile for Express Entry, it is possible to use the ECA that you have got already because it remains valid for a period of 5 years.

How long will it take to process ECA?

The standard time for processing includes the receipt of all documents, their review and their approval. You need to make the payment in full. The Educational Credential Assessment takes 7-15 business days. To process IRCC applications, they need 20-45 business days.
