The year 2018 was exceptional for the Express Entry Canada. However, 2019 is most likely to raise the bar with more entries.
There are 3 immigration programs for highly skilled people within the Express Entry of Canada. These programs issued 89,800 invitations in 2018 to accept the applications for permanent residence in Canada. The number of invitations was a record in the history of Express Entry.
Before 2018, the last record was 86,023 ITA or invitations to apply, which was a number obtained in 2017. It looks as if the new record is going to be broken again in the year 2019.
The Express Entry of Canada includes 3 classes:
- Federal Skilled Worker Class or FSWC
- Federal Skilled Trades Class or FSTC
- Canadian Experience Class CEC
All three classes come within the immigration plans in Canada. They all will increase with the addition of 6,500 in 2019. Then, the year 2020 will see another increment in this number by 4,400.
Impact of increased ITAs on the draws
As expected, if IRCC issues an increased number of ITAs, the year 2019 will bring expansion in the draw sizes. Or, the authority of IRCC might decide to increase the frequency of draws to organize multiple draws in small time intervals. Generally, the draw frequency stays 2 weeks, but it can increase due to an increased number of ITAs.
IRCC has been giving increment to the draw sizes for the past 1 year. It happened in instalments with the increments provided to the ITAs. For instance, the beginning of the year had 2750 ITAs, which got increased by 500 or 250 after every 2-3 months. The peak size was attained at 3,900 ITAs.
As the year 2018 has shown, it seems like the CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System might reach a new minimum. In 2018, the CRS reached its minimum, which was 439.
It is most likely that IRCC will increase the frequency of draws in order to align with the number of applications in 2019.
Growth in the PNP
There was an increase in the candidates who came with provincial nominations in 2018.
Canada’s PNP or Provincial Nominee Program includes two territories and nine provinces. This program is used to provide PR for economic immigrants every year. However, a few allocations reach an enhanced level of provincial programs via Express Entry.
The enhanced nomination provides an addition of 600 points, which skyrockets the overall ranking score of a candidate. This guarantees the ITA for a candidate for permanent residence in Canada.
According to IRCC, about 12 percent of 62,500 ITAs in the Express Entry reached provincial nominees in 2018. This percentage value was only 9 during the same time period in the year 2017. At the end of 2017, IRCC issued more ITAs for the provincial nominees and the total percentage reached 10 percent.
There was a gradual increase in the number of admissions in PNP of Canada during the period of 2017 to 2018. The projection of increment shows positive signs for PNP as well in 2019. The admissions are expected to increase by 6000 in 2019.
As a targeted goal, PNP is supposed to reach 71,300 during the time period of 2020 to 2021. This will take the increment percentage to almost 30 with respect to the total value obtained in 2018.
Express Entry showed great magic in the year 2018 and this magic is supposed to magnify in the upcoming 12 months. The year 2019 is going to be an important one with respect to Canadian Express Entry programs and PNP.
