The General Skilled Migration (GSM) is sub-divided into three visa categories. They are discussed below:
Skilled Regional (Provincial) Visa (Subclass 489)
This is one of the visa categories that is a part of the General Skilled Migration pathway. This category allows the immigrant a temporary visa for a period of four years issued by the Australian government to people who want to work as well as live in areas that have low population growth as skilled workers. To be able to apply to this category, you will have to be nominated either by that specific region where you wish to work or by a family member who has been already living in that region.
Skilled Nomination Visa (Subclass 190)
This visa is state nominated by the Australian government for the immigrants who are willing to work and live in the country permanently. The immigrant will get a PR card using this visa category. To be eligible for applying, a nomination from either an Australian territory or state government agency is necessary. Many states of Australia like Canberra, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, etc. invite foreign citizens to work in their state as skilled workers in Australia Immigration pathway from India will also be based on the similar requirements slightly differing for each state. You will be allowed to choose a state for the nomination when you apply.
Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
This is an independent visa type which won’t require any nomination from a family member or state when applying for permanent residency. People applying through this visa category will be able to work and live in Australia permanently.
The Procedure Involved in the Point Based System of General Skilled Migration (GSM) Pathway
The GSM pathway requires all the applicants to make a profile and have it registered. They also have to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) online in the Skill Select System. The point system goes through every detail in the applicant’s profile and evaluates it accordingly. Points are allotted to different factors such as age, language proficiency, work experience, education qualification, etc. If you receive a nomination from an Australian state or family member, you will get extra points for that.
You will require at least 60 points to qualify. But to be eligible for an ITA, you will have to score higher than the qualifying number. If you get selected, you will get an ITA for whichever visa you have applied to. You have to apply within a span of 60 days as soon as you receive the ITA.
